Review of Dr. Radha Venkatachalam's concert on July 6th, 2007 sponsored by Music Education Trust - Young Ranjana (sp.) Swaminathan, a disciple of Umayalpuram Sivaraman, did ample justice to her guru’s style on the mridangam. From complementing vilamba kala kritis with sensitive strokes to drumming up an exciting crescendo in the absorbing tani with H. Sivaramakrishnan (ghatam), she was a picture of concentration and an example of diligent sadhana.

B.Vijayagopal, flautist, in the company of Srilakshmi Venkataramani and Rajna Swaminathan were on the stage for their performance at the Music Academy. ...  After the niraval and swaras the thani was played well.   ... From the very take off, the mridangist’s calibre was evident. Rajna’s mridangam was outstanding throughout. She accompanied the music with anticipation giving enough fillip to the concert.

Young Ranjana (sp.) Swaminathan who is under the tutelage of Umayalpuram Sivaraman was concentration personified during her thani and had an accompanying style showing great deal of anticipation.
